The Senate, those fantastically talented boys from Seattle, was in town last night performing at the Three Trees coffee shop. The title of this blog is derived from the lyrics of their song, Molly. Which, as you may gather, is one of my favorites. I worked the door for them and was lucky enough to hang out and chat afterwards with the boys (I'm like a groupie, except rated PG...). I don't know who the song is about, but I think they may have borrowed my name (it's singable, what can I say?), probably because I'm a pretty avid fan. It starts, "Bella, bella, bella bella Molly..." Mmmm. Great for my self-esteem.
I rugby tackled my English midterm today (I believe only Joseph will truly appreciate that sentence, and I doubt he reads my blog), so I felt pretty good about. We had one on Proust two weeks ago, and I was pretty tentative in my approach. Today, I wasn't. I walked in the room and off came the coat, the sweatshirt, the hat, and the shoes. Outlines were drawn, ink was smudged on my nose because I actually pressed it into the paper, and I couldn't feel my right forearm by the time it was done, but by God, I think I did pretty well.
My current escape plan requires a passport and a canoe. However, just for fun I looked up the only really decent water routes out of this town, and the only one I could find went to Juneau, Alaska. And it looked REALLY difficult. With my sense of direction, I'd circumnavigate the wrong island and end up land locked on some remote Canadian island. Then the authorities would find me, and my passport will have gotten wet and ruined, and they'll blacklist me from the country for crossing the border without the proper credentials. That idea scared me enough to stay in town and actually go to my midterm.
The three day weekend shall be comprised of writing my take-home linguistics midterm, preparing for fall retreat, and hopefully a little social interaction. Maybe I'll make the boys cookies.
Thanks for lunch yesterday, Mom! I had a great time with you!
